April, 2015

You all probably wonder why I haven’t email out April’s Monthly Note yet. Well, I just return from Colorado on a spring ski trip. Thus, I finally have time to type it up now. Some of you are probably thinking I should be thinking of warm weather for bike riding instead of snow for skiing. Well, I winded up doing both, as the temperature in Denver two Saturday’s ago was in the 80’s and up in the Rockies reached mid 50’s most of the week. I saw many cyclists riding around Denver and the Summit County where I was staying for the week as well as many skiers enjoying spring skiing all throughout the week. Got me thinking I wish I took my bike out there. Never-the-less, I had an awesome time and now I can focus on spring riding.

Speaking of spring riding, now is the time to dust off your bike and check to see if it requires any tune-up. Some of the basic include, adequate tire pressure in the wheels, all screws and bolts are tighten to the recommended torque, shifting cables, braking cables and brake pads are still in alignment. If you are not a do-it-yourself-er like me, I suggest you take your ride to your local bike shop as they will gladly check it over for you. Don’t forget to take advantage of the club discount as all 4 shops do honor it.(discount varies depending on bike shop)

Now is also the time to review bicycle safety guidelines and traffic laws. Below is a link to some safety practices we all need to review to insure we minimize any chance of colliding with motor vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians. In addition, the League of Illinois Bicyclists has provided a link to the Bike Safety Quiz they have put together. Please take some time to review both at your leisurely as I would hate to see anyone of you get injured due to not knowing the safety guidelines.
